Laying supply hose is all about feeding the pump on the attack engine. Water is drawn from a source like a hydrant or another supply point, but the hose lay’s purpose is to deliver that water to the pump so the engine can pressurize it and push it through to the attack lines. The standpipe system, hydrant, or water main are sources or parts of the water supply network, not the endpoint of the supply hose. The attack engine is the device that receives the water from the supply hose and then discharges it where the fire is being fought, making it the correct target for the hose lay.
